Amor does so well at caring for the needy and the board of pastors that serve with them are a group of truly incredible people. We wanted to give you a glimpse into the lives of the people on this board to see the kind of work they do without asking for recognition. The following are stories of good are from the perspective of our friend Howie who works at Amor:

I always come away from a meetings with Amor’s Mexico Pastor Board richer than before I go and my last meeting with them was no exception. These men are as real as they come. Here are a few examples of stories that show how generous they are with their lives.

Mexicali, which was hit by the recent 7.2 earthquake, was already devastated enough, but the lack of drinking water drove people on the streets who had water to sell to pure greed when selling their clean water for absurd prices. Enter in these Amor board members, who are already struggling to support their own communities, who drop everything when the needs of their friends and family in Mexicali surpass the needs of their own. Their friends’ need for help drove them to put together water purifier packages that were meant for their own communities and they then drove the purifiers over to Mexicali that weekend to help relieve the situation.

Right after my meeting with them, the men helped the local Amor staff in providing an emergency gall bladder removal for a man in desperate condition. An Amor mission group had worked for a Mexican family the week before and noticed that the man of the house never left his bad. The family said he was sick and needed medicine so the group decided they wanted to pay for the hospital bills and gave the funds to the local pastor.  The next week, that man had to be rushed to the hospital and would have passed away without the procedure. It was only through the quick action of the pastor that we at Amor were able to find a clinic that could do the job efficiently and economically. The money that the group from the previous week had donated was the exact amount that the man needed to survive and he is now fine and recovering well.

So many of these pastors on the ground are the reason for Amor’s huge impact 365 days a year.
