Invisible Children Update: LRA Disarmament Bill Passes Congress

Posted on Friday at 1:06

We are so stoked on the work that Invisible Children does and this past week was HUGE for their mission to stop Joseph Kony and the LRA. Read below and don’t miss the “highlights” video at the bottom.

From Invisible Children:

Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed the LRA Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act, by voice vote without a single objection.

Over the course of 30 minutes, seven Congress members spoke on behalf of the bill, calling on President Obama, in response to the atrocities being committed in central east Africa, to form a plan to remove Joseph Kony from the battlefield. Eight additional Members of Congress submitted written statements expressing their support for the bill.

Can you believe it? The leaders of our nation, for 30 MINUTES, stated and restated the atrocities committed by Joseph Kony and the urgent need for a strong response from the United States.

As if that weren’t enough, America’s young activists got their recognition too.

This 2-minute highlight reel cuts together some of the most spine-tingling portions of the speeches. Be proud. They are talking about you.

Who We Are: Patrick Dodd

Posted on Thursday at 5:35

Hi. My name is Patrick Marc Dodd , good to meet you. I have been the one running the blog here (and thus interviewing people for our blog’s “Who We Are” series) for the past few months and figured the near-end of our “Who We Are” series would be a good time to introduce myself to you. I am Jedidiah’s “Social Brand Manager” as I currently run the social media outlets, maintain relationships with our humanitarian partners and some bands and manage the interns. Here is a bit about me:

I was born in a suburb of Paris, France called Creil and lived in a town called Boran-Sur-Oise until the age of 8. In June of 1994, my dad accepted a position in San Diego and have lived here ever since except for my time in college. I am the oldest of four children and love my siblings a ton.

I started in the American education system at Holmes Elementary School, continued at Marston Middle School, which was followed by Clairemont High School. I completed my higher education with a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Communication at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. (Sic ‘Em Bears!)

I have been involved with Jedidiah in some way or another since the beginning of its existence. First being exposed as a camper at Walking on Water surf camp shortly after it began. I loved the people behind it and still do, especially since those people are now my coworkers.

I grew up wanting to be a professional athlete until I one day learned that you had to try out and you couldn’t just choose to be a professional athlete. Then, from early high school on, I dreamed of doing music in some capacity and that dream lives on through the label that I will tell you about in a second and getting to lead worship at different churches every so often.

Free time: What’s that? Just kidding. But life has been pretty insane for the past year or so. Aside from working at Jedidiah, I work part-time at Blinksale (a super rad online invoicing application) and I have started an indie record label with a great friend of mine called Attaboy Records. Even though there are several other small projects here and there, I LOVE spending time and traveling with my wife of almost two years, Mrs. Lacey Dodd. We just got back this week from a little anniversary trip with some of our best friends in San Francisco and Sonoma that was incredible. Other than that, I love playing guitar when I get a chance and surfing (although I haven’t been in forever and Kahana and Billy would love to see that happen).

Our favorite places to visit (now including Lacey in the mix) would have to be London, Turks & Caicos (where we honeymooned) and San Francisco.

The things that are currently inspiring me are almost always the same: big vision, great ideas, sharp design, fresh music, killer lyrics and Lacey. I am also super fortunate to have an unfair amount of talented friends and they really inspire me every day. On a related note, I have so much to be thankful for. Seriously, the relationships I have with people and things I have gotten to do are ridiculous.

A few things you wouldn’t necessarily know about me are:

1) I was born in France (even though you know because I already told you that), 2) when I was in 10th grade, my club soccer team was invited to play the Women’s National Team months after they won the World Cup and we beat them 5-0, 3) I enjoy playing tennis and ping-pong a lot. I have schooled Bill Walton a ping-pong several times and 4) I am a super neat freak.

My three current favorite bands are probably Phoenix, Paper Route and José Gonzalez.

The most defining moment of my life without a doubt was on June 14 when I married the most incredible girl in the universe and told her that no matter what happens in this life, I will never leave her and always be by her side.

The next thing I am going to eat is probably some miso soup at Sushi Deli. I have a soccer game shortly after, so I don’t want to eat much more than that.

I love working at Jedidiah. The environment around here is a really fun place to work and I love the people that are associated with Jedidiah. If I can do anything for you, feel free to e-mail me at patrick@jedidiahusa.com.

Are You A Dreamer?

Posted on Tuesday at 9:40

No one should negotiate their dreams. Dreams must be free to flee and fly high. No government, no legislature, has a right to limit your dreams. You should never agree to surrender your dreams. -Jesse Jackson

I love seeing people who have HUGE dreams. Do you have those people around you? They dream so big that it is contagious and if you don’t buy into their dream, you at least start dreaming up ideas of your own: how to solve a problem, how to throw the best event around, how to gather your favorite people in the world in one room at the same time. The guy in the picture above looks like he is on walk doing some great brainstorming during what are his ideal conditions.

Jedidiah is known to cater to the dreamer, the visionary and the doer. We love hearing story after story of people going out on there own to conquer problems they’ve discovered or love on someone who hasn’t been as fortunate as they’ve been.

What are you dreaming about right now? What is keeping that dream alive?
