Fall 2010 Sneak Peek

Posted on Friday at 5:55

When planning the Fall 2010 Photoshoot, the first location I wanted to shoot at was The Station Tavern (one of the best burgers around) in South Park, San Diego. We got to take over the entire restaurant and bar for the night and run wild. Here are a couple of shots from the shoot.

Applications To Help Your Productivity

Posted on Friday at 5:23

The application revolution has begun! As of June 7, 2010, there have been over 5 billion (5,000,000,000!!!!) applications downloaded from the iTunes App Store alone.

Pictured above is a pulsating application wall from last years Apple WWDC (Worldwide Developer Conference) that showed a live feed sampling from the top 20,000 apps in the app store. Every time an application was downloaded, the app would pop out as you can see above. This may give you a sample of how popular applications are becoming.

As the Social Media Manager here at Jedidiah, there are a few applications I use on a daily and hourly basis that keep me on top of everything. Here are a few of them:

Evernote – www.evernote.com

This is an application that has so much capability, it still blows my mind. Not only can it keep track of anything (important numbers, information, contacts, quotes, ideas, etc), it automatically syncs to as many locations as you need it (web, phone, and applications on your iPhone, iPad and desktop). And probably the most amazing part of this powerful tool is that it is FREE!

Tweetie – www.atebits.com/tweetie-mac/

This is the application I primarily use for Twitter. It is the best way to have information filtering in all day. Twitter Inc. actually purchased Tweetie a few months back and has made it their primary application for the iPhone, now called “Twitter for iPhone”.

Blinksale – www.blinksale.com

This is an invoicing web-application that I get to do some work for as well. It is the easiest way to invoice online and I personally use it if I play music somewhere where I have pre-arranged to get paid a certain amount. Simply put, if you have people that owe you money for work you have done, this is the best way to keep track of it.

Things – www.culturedcode.com/things

Things is the ultimate to-do list that also has an iPhone component. Although this does cost $50 for the desktop application and $10 for the iPhone app, your productivity will almost definitely shoot out the roof. Look at it as an investment and you’ll be pleased.

Mint – www.mint.com

There is no better way to keep track of your personal finances than Mint. Any bank you are part of, or any investment you have, any budget you want to set, any way you want to keep track of your money, this will do it. Also FREE with a FREE iPhone app.

Enjoy and let me know what you think of them! What are some of your favorites?

Don’t Forget Haiti

Posted on Thursday at 5:51

A good friend of mine named Ryan Booth was in Haiti 4 months after the earthquake. To say that the media Ryan provides is full of great images and amazing footage doesn’t do it justice, but I did want to give you an excerpt from his post on Haiti as he processes through what he saw:

At one point, while standing on a hillside and surveying to my left and to my right, I suddenly realized that I wasn’t standing on a hillside. I was standing on ten stories of rubble, smashed and piled into an enormous mound. A mound that had claimed the lives of many, a mound that represented the permanently altered lives of a neighborhood, a town. This mound was seismic change, catastrophic change, and yet, as I looked back to my right, a young boy carrying a school bag strolled by weaving his way through the cut paths in the rubble. He was walking on the new “sidewalks” made from thousands of feet following the pair in front of them. He had a sno-cone in his hand and a book back slung over his shoulder. This was his new walk home from school. Catastrophe and normalcy pressed right up against each other. I followed the young man as he walked home, as he made his way through what was left of his neighborhood and I wondered what I was walking over, wondered how possible it would be to “move on.” Then he turned the corner, out of my view, and into his house…

For more, check out Ryan’s blog and post from Haiti, and look out for www.dontforgethaiti.com to, as Ryan puts it “meet more of these incredible Haitian people who are just like you and me…more people who are having to rebuild an entire city brick by brick. The hope is to connect you with these people and the organizations who are standing along side them” (such as Compassion, our Fall 2010 partner).
