Did you know that one homeless person costs taxpayers $40,500 per year, but the cost of housing a homeless person for one year is only slightly higher at $41,494?
We’re embarking on a cross-country trip this week to do our part in tackling this issue, which will result in a new center that will benefit homeless youth in New York City. Each season, we partner with a non-profit organization to drive awareness and complete a project that will create life-changing results for those it benefits. Three team members from Jedidiah will meet with our fall/winter 2011 beneficiary, StandUp for Kids, in Los Angeles, Miami and New York over the next week.
Armed with a photographer/videographer, we’ll document the realities that homeless youth are facing across the country by visiting them in SUFK centers, as well as on the streets where they live. The visuals, thoughts, emotions and sentiments we capture through photo, video and self-discovery will serve as the inspiration for the design team to use in our fall/winter 2011 collection. Proceeds from this collection will fund a new center for SUFK in New York City.
We’re also tapping into the creative talent of the SUFK youth by allowing them all to submit T-shirt designs to us. One winner will be paid for their submission and their piece will become part of the fall/winter 2011 collection.
Jedidiah’s SUFK tour will culminate in LA today and tomorrow, head to Miami on Friday and wrap up with three days in New York Sunday – Tuesday. Follow us on Facebook or Twitter to keep up with the team on their venture and check back here for daily updates.
