INTERNATIONAL JUSTICE MISSION

MISSION:  International Justice Mission is an international human rights agency that rescues victims of violence, sexual exploitation, slavery and oppression.

HISTORY:  IJM was founded in 1997 in response to a need.  A need to restrain the oppressors who were harming education, healthcare, food and other vital services to those who needed them.  A group of lawyers, concerned by this need, launched a study of the injustices witnessed by overseas missionaries and relief and development workers.  This study uncovereda nearly unanimous awareness of abuses of power by police and other authorities in the communities in which they served. The assistance of trained justice professionals was needed to confront the abuse and bring rescue to the victims.  Gary Haugen, working as a lawyer at the U.S. Department of Justice, founded IJM as a response to this massive need.

TODAY:  International Justice Mission currently operates in thirteen countries around the world, focusing casework primarily on issues of bonded labor, forced prostitution, land seizure, police brutality, and illegal imprisonment.  Today, IJM has grown to nearly 300 professionals working in their own communities to fight injustice.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:  Visit the IJM website to learn how you can get involved by volunteering or giving today.
