Music Monday, 4/4

Posted on Monday at 7:40

Welcome to another Music Monday! We hope you all had a good weekend and a good start to the week.

We want to give credit to some bands who are taking action to help Japan recover like we did with our Japan shirts. We admire them and think other bands should follow their steps in the future.

New Found Glory came out with a Japan shirt where all proceeds will be sent to Japan. To check out their shirt visit their website.

Many bands came together to put together a digital compilation called COMPassion. Some of the bands include Atlantic/Pacific, Codeseven, (Damn) This Desert Air, Daria, Kevin Devine, Mourning District, Office of Future Plans, Park Ranger and Parms. The collection was compiled to raise money for disaster victims in Japan with 100% of proceeds being donated to Relief International’s efforts in Japan. Click here to listen, support and see a full list of the participating bands.

Remember to check back in on Mondays to hear updates on music and Jedidiah!

Japan Update From World Vision

Posted on Thursday at 8:04

Today we received a personal update from Keith Kall, the World Vision Senior Director. In our involvement with World Vision through our Japan-inspired t-shirts with Bulldog Drummond, we find it it important to pass the news on to you.

He stressed that even though the emergency has dropped from the news headlines, the country and people are still in critical need of help. 10,000 deaths have been counted, 17,000 people still are uncounted for and 244,000 people remain in emergency shelters. World Vision anticipates an initial 90-day response with a likely 24-month rehabilitation program for Japan.

As of now, 10,000 people have been helped by World Vision’s supply of baby diapers, blankets, bottled water, socks, warm clothing, and other important items. World Vision estimates that by the 90-day mark they will have helped 30,000 people with precooked meals, child-friendly spaces, mattresses, diapers, winter clothing, hygiene kits, batteries and blankets in addition to the critical items they already are providing.

Keith discussed the importance of the child-friendly spaces that World Vision is creating.  Some children do not know where their family is located and others have lost many friends and family members. Most children in the centers have completely lost their homes and when school will begin again is unknown. The centers provide children survivors with a safe place to play, heal from the trauma they have gone through and engage in structured activities. Healthy routines are created so the children can have a sense of normalcy.

Hearing about World Vision’s work in Japan encourages us that people are receiving good help and care. At the same time, it is a reminder for everyone that the country is still in disaster and needs continued help.

Feedback From StandUp For Kids

Posted on Wednesday at 7:42

After our night at the StandUp For Kids center in Oceanside earlier this month, the Jedidiah team left feeling very connected to the organization. We loved how the mural turned out and hoped that on Monday all of the children would enjoy what they saw.

The Oceanside director, Kim Goodeve-Green, wrote us a heartfelt thank-you note that we want to share with you. Her words show how much help is appreciated and the way it impacts the children.

Below is some of her note:

“I cannot express to you how amazing this gift is, that you shared with us. You were all amazing to watch, and I SO WISH you could have been there on Monday when the kids came in. To see their amazed faces, to hear them gush about how “awesome” the mural is…to watch their imagination light up…this is the gift that I can never repay. A few of the volunteers started crying as they were moved by the emotion that the mural brings out…it is beautiful, it is amazing how each different piece of work touches each of us differently, yet it all molds together to create one…kind of like “us”…we are all so different, yet we are “one” family.

“Whether you realize it or not, you have sparked some inner light within a few of the kids, a belief that maybe, just maybe, they can create something like this too.”

We are very thankful for people like Kim. We so value her appreciation for our work as well as her devotion to the children. These personal relationships within our partner organizations make our Jedidiah work even more meaningful to us.
