Would you walk 10-15 miles just for a meal? How about walking that far with 40-60 pounds of wood on your back? Hundreds of millions of women in the world do this every day, just to get firewood to provide meals for their families. After all of this work, they are forced to cook over a dangerous, inefficient fire that is a threat to their health, killing 2 million women and children each year.
Our ambassador Greg Spencer from the Paradigm Project, has created a Woodwalk from San Diego to Los Angeles to show this injustice that women face every day. For 11 days, a group will walk from San Diego to Los Angeles, with each person holding 40-60 pounds of wood on their back, to raise awareness and honor the millions of women who know this as a way of life. Teams from different organizations- The Modern Gypsies (more of our ambassadors!), Invisible Children (a past non-profit partner of Jedidiah), People of the Second Chance and more will be walking, stopping along the way in local communities to bring them face-to-face with the experience.
The walk will raise funds for The Paradigm Project’s efforts to end open fire cooking in East Africa through clean burning rocket stoves. Does the walk sound too challenging? It’s easy to still support The Paradigm Project and raise awareness: we have teamed up with them to bring you Woodwalk shirts. Proceeds benefit The Paradigm Project and you can find them in our Help Now web store section.
Join us on October 13th in Hollywood at Space 15 Twenty as the Woodwalk group finishes their journey. There will be live music, food, great people and the event is free. Find more information about the event here.
