This past Friday GFMB (Gum For My Boat) played at the California Surf Festival at the Brooks Theater in Oceanside, so we decided to make a day of it…We met up with Jafar (Bangladeshi surfer in GFMB), Nate Wells, Russell Brownley, and some of the Surfing The Nations crew at the Oceanside Pier. After 30 minutes of watching Jafar struggle through putting on a wetsuit for the first time, we paddled out at the pier for a few waves before dark.

When we rolled up to the theatre we were greeted with a sold out crowd. Throughout the screening it was as though the common thread that already connected this closely knit group was pulled even tighter. After it finished the filmmakers along with Jafar, Tom Bauer, and Chris Rehr of Surfing the Nations engaged in some dialogue with the viewers.

In all the night was a huge success. Even though GFMB won best short from the festival, the true triumph was that the story of the Bangladesh Surf Club was able to reach even more viewers. A huge thanks goes out to all the people who made this night a memorable one, including Fuel TV, Dan Fields and his rad photography, Jafar, the entire STN Crew, Lou Niles and everyone at the California Surf Surf Museum.
