Last week we had the chance to go visit an organization we had heard great things about.
Stand Up for Kids exists to provide a sanctuary for homeless street kids all across America.
The San Diego location was their first center almost 20 years ago and even today, they are the only active non-profit serving the needs of homeless kids.
We had a chance to sit down with Teri (2nd from the right in picture above), the director of the San Diego location, to learn more about her needs, her staff and how we might be able to help.
The organization is 100% volunteer based and these people are modern day angels.
The love they give to bruised, battered and broken children 7 days a week, 365 days a year is a beautiful example of a life well lived.
When I asked her what she needed most she just said people that “care”.
To me these words were a little prophetic, because behind the scenes we are working on a new brand platform for Jedidiah and the new slogan we have embraced is “made with care”.
Jedidiah has earmarked Stand Up For Kids as one of our 2011 Hope Partners which will provide financial resources for them to further their mission.
But we also want to get involved with them in a more active way.
We are organizing our staff to become part of their small army of volunteers on a regular basis.
We will assist in providing meals, organizing the donations of musical instruments, computers, bus tokens and even school scholarships.
Not to mention just being there to establish relationships with kids who need someone to talk to.
If you are local to San Diego and if this sounds like something you may want to get involved in, we would love to have you come join us.
A training session will be organized over the next month so get back to us if you think you could be part of this effort.
