Express Yourself
By Brandon Wold, Andover
Music. The art or science of combining vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion. I believe the last of these products in the definition to be very important. Regardless of where you come from or what genre of music you call your own you can relate to the expression of emotion in music. Whether you're having a good time hanging with your friends or going through some trials, music relates. whether you play, write, or listen you can express. It applies to your thoughts and feelings, it allows for conversation, it gives you answers, it produces questions, and it allows you to express.
So how has music affected me? Music has given me an outlet. I am free to create and feel within the notes and words, I can relate with people through it's ideas, I can discover it's genres, and I can express in it's complex nature. Life may not always be easy but music can accent your emotions and allow you to cope. There was a time in my life when my aunt received news that she had cancer. this was a hard time for my family and me. Why would this happen? She was to young. There were four things that helped me through this time. My family, my faith, my youth pastor, and "Testing The Strong Ones" by Copeland. That song just related to what I was going through and helped me cope. My aunt later went home to be with the Lord. It was a sad time but we made it and realized what had been gained by the experience. For me this song was an expression of hope.
So how has music affected me? It has affected me in expression. Through whatever I go through I will express who I am and the hope I have. I encourage everyone to do the same.
Express Yourself.
