Coffe Beans and the Beatles
By Dave Bloom, St. Augustine, FL
It was late at night in a remote coffee bean village outside San Isidro Costa Rica. I'd been invited back to this family's village to a collection of families scattered amongst the coffee bean trees living in houses they had pieced together over the years from random construction scraps and junkyards. Sender Quesada was my friend. He was the one that invited me. He didn't speak much english and I spoke very little spanish. He loved American music especially the Beattles and the Rolling Stones and knew all the song lyrics by heart. He had listened to them over and over on a homemade boombox hea had built himself. We stayed up late that night listening to songs and after I would do my best to tell them what they meant. He was blown away and so was I. I stayed for the rest of the week picking coffee beans and listening to music.
