“Don’t call it a comeback..” The year was 1990, and I was seven years old. I was sitting in a tight little corner next to our family stereo system with my fingers resting on the play-record buttons, eagerly waiting to dub my favorite radio jams over one of my mom’s Sandy Patti cassette tapes and that’s when I heard it. “Mama said knock you out…” LL Cool J came screaming through my speakers forever ingraining the sound of smooth in my brain. Shortly thereafter I can recall seeing LL’s face on MTV sporting none other than his infamous Kangol hat…
Sorry for the diversion… Fastforward 18 years later to this past February’s Magic Tradeshow in Las Vegas where 6 amazing artists from all over the country collaborated on a 24 foot mural centered around Hope. At the end of the show the mural was auctioned off for $15k and the proceeds were given to the Las Vegas chapter of Stand Up for Kids. Masud Sarshar, the CEO of Apparel Limited Inc. and licensee of Kangol Ltd. purchased the Hope Farmers mural. Today I had the honor of installing the mural at its new home in east L.A.

The exterior of the building was covered in artwork by some of my favorite graffiti artists…

To be honest, I did a little more standing around than anything thanks to the expertise of Happy, and Rock from exhibe who also made the drive from SD to install the painting. It felt pretty cool to be in that building and to know people from other respectable businesses do care about supporting art, inspiring creativity, and giving back to awesome organizations like Stand Up for Kids. We got the mural up in a few hours and it looked amazing… “BLAAAAW, how ya like me now?”
