World Vision's Microcredit Program: A small loan goes a long way in Tijuana
Yesterday, I visited Tijuana, Mexico to experience the microcredit program that World Vision has established there.
It was a way for us to see first hand what our Hope Collection partners are doing with the resources they have been given.
It was really encouraging to sit and talk with people who have benefited from this program.
Over 700 families and over 1300 children have directly benefited from short term low cost loans to enable them to start cottage businesses.
More than the money this program provides, the Hope we saw in these families was the most encouraging aspect of the trip.
They feel that someone believes in them and is willing to give them a chance. The loan default rate in the entire program is only 1%.
They have pride and honor World Vision with a great work ethic and desire to be accountable for all they are given.
All we really need is a chance and for someone to believe in us.
World Vision is providing this and so much more.
