I was able to go to Hawaii and work with their group in 2009 around Waikiki Beach. My experience there was more than I could have ever imagine. Our organization, the Mauli Ola Foundation, takes Cystic Fibrosis patients surfing with professional surfers. The saline of the ocean acts as a natural treatment for this fatal genetic disease by hydrating the lungs, which helps expel the mucus. There is no known cure for CF yet, but surfing can temporarily relieve many chronic symptoms, resulting in better lung function and less hospital visits.
