Hope Collection: Compassion
MISSION: To exist as an advocate for children, to release them from their spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enable them to become responsible and fulfilled Christian adults.
HISTORY: Founded by the Rev. Everett Swanson in 1952, Compassion began providing Korean War orphans with basic needs, such as food, shelter, educationĀ and health care.
TODAY: Compassion works in 24 countries supporting over 1 million children through its various sponsorship programs, including the Child Survival Program, the Leadership Development Program, and the Child Sponsorship Program. Compassion projects are long-term, holistic development efforts, staffed by people in the local community. Child sponsorships help provide ongoing Christian training, educational opportunities, treatment and training to maintain health, self confidence and social skill development, and key life skills and vocational training.
